At the Padula Institute of Vision, we prioritize thorough and compassionate care. An initial comprehensive evaluation will typically take between 4 to 5 hours and is conducted by our team (including our doctors and trained technicians). In the exam room, you will receive a detailed history and in-depth binocular vision assessment. We understand that many of our tests are difficult, so we build in enough time for any breaks you may need during examination.
After the exam room, we move on to speciality testing which often involves 3 of our most common tests: Visual Evoked Potentials, Visual Field testing, and Gait/Balance analysis. The Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) is a brainwave study that allows the doctors to see how your brain uses your eyes. For this test, our technician will attach 3 electrodes to your scalp and have you watch a moving checkerboard pattern that may change in size. Visual field testing can help us understand how you’re seeing your world. Lastly, the gait and balance analysis allows us to see how you use your vision to navigate through your space, specifically taking into account your center of mass and center of gravity when walking. We have plenty of other specialized tests that can be performed during an examination, but these are often tailored to your individual needs.
Following the evaluation, our doctors will take time to carefully explain the results and provide individualized recommendations for your rehabilitation. Treatment often involves one or more pairs of therapeutic yoked prism glasses and Neuro-Visual Postural Therapy ™ (NVPT) designed to address your specific needs.
Our Team is dedicated to helping you achieve your best possible outcomes. We embrace an interdisciplinary approach, integrating Neuro-Optometric rehabilitation with other therapies such as physical, occupational, speech, and cognitive therapies. Collaboration is a cornerstone of successful rehabilitation, and we are here to work with you every step of the way.
